There are plenty of opportunities for nature and sport lovers. The clear sea of Tremiti isles can be explored in its coves, caves and deep sea-beds with a lush vegetation and many species of fish. Between Ionian and Adriatic sea, in Santa Maria di Leuca, the seabed can be up to 90 metres deep, with a wide variety of multi-coloured animals. Above water one can have fun kite surfing, windsurfing and practising many other different water sport all year round.
But Apulia is not just about its sea. Natural wonders await you to discover them, while historic and traditional sites can be enjoyed with different mean of transportation, like in a bike tour. One can choose among many different itineraries: nature, riding along the paths of Gargano Park or Murgia National Park; history, visiting the vestiges that testify the heritage of this area; or countryside, staying in peaceful corners of heaven, to rest far from the crowded cities.
Events and festivals are an important part of the culture of Apulia all year-round: the Carnival of Putignano, the San Nicola Festival in Bari and the Disfida di Barletta (Challenge of Barletta) are well-known. In Melpignano, in August, it is organized a festival dedicated to the most famous dances of Apulia: pizzica and tarantella; enticing visitors from all over Europe with dances to the sounds of the tambourine under the light of the moon.
